电子游戏产业是世界经济中发展最快的产业之一,其净收益超过了娱乐业。2019年全球电子游戏市场增长至1488亿美元,预计到2022年将达到1896亿美元。马来西亚电子游戏市场在2018年达到了4年167.7%的增长,达到5.89亿美元。马来西亚拥有超过86家游戏工作室,其中6家是著名的国际工作室,马来西亚将成为该地区最大的游戏开发中心之一。鉴于这种令人难以置信的增长,以及对具有非常专业技能的游戏开发人员的迫切需求,来西亚伍伦贡伯乐学府旨在培养熟悉制作流程,并了解制作成功游戏所需的这三大领域的高素质人才。

 

游戏艺术(GAME ART——处理游戏的视觉部分。游戏美术师需要学习如何为各种类型的游戏制作3D和2D美术资产,从简单的像素图形到超现实的图形,让玩家完全沉浸其中。

 

游戏设计(GAME DESIGN)负责处理电子游戏的游戏性、机制、关卡和世界设计,以及故事性/叙事性。游戏设计师必须学习游戏如何运作以构建体验,包括游戏机制、游戏平衡、社交游戏互动以及将视觉、音频、触觉和文字元素整合到整体游戏体验中。

 

游戏技术(GAME TECHNOLOGY)专注于游戏的技术层面,如物理引擎、图形引擎、人工智能和网络。游戏程序员要学习路径查找、排序等主流算法的优化,以及地面游戏引擎或现有引擎修改的实时3D渲染。

Our syllabus is a direct result of in-depth analysis and collaborations with industry partners and game development pioneers to ensure our graduates are not only employable but desirable talents that can integrate seamlessly into the industry. The syllabus evolves to stay relevant to current industry needs, trends and practices.

The Game Development degree program at UOW Malaysia is endorsed by a major UK-based game development studio and stalwarts in the local industry. The program’s streamlined syllabus and industry insights produces sought-after talents, drawing many a studio to headhunt and handpick talents before they even graduate. With three specialised streams to choose from, our program is one of the most comprehensive Game Development programs out there.

Bachelor of Game Development Program is also endorsed by Codemasters Studios. The collaboration entails the adoption of industry benchmarking and standards for curriculum and assessment methods in the program delivery. Codemasters is one of Britain’s oldest video game development companies and is considered Europe’s largest independent games company with nearly 700 employees in the UK alone. The Bachelor of Game Development Program is also one of the first programs  outside North America and Europe to be an Unreal Academic Partner. The Unreal Academic Partner Program recognizes universities and schools that have committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities with an experienced faculty, proven curricula, sufficient facilities, and resources to meet the demands of the global game development industry.

To study games, you must learn from people who produced games. All of UOW Malaysia’s game development lecturers have worked or are still actively involved in the video game industry; and are experts at their respective fields. Learning from their insights and industry-experience would greatly enhance your learning experience. The lecturers include a healthy mix of full-time and part-time staff, some of whom are currently CEOs and CTOs of their respective game studios but have dedicated their time to ensure that the degree program is of the highest standards. Our teaching staff includes people who has worked on games on the PS3 such as SEGA ALL STARS Racing and Afro Samurai; Stormriders Online (one of Malaysia’s first MMO); concept artist for Dark Souls; one of the founding members of the Women-in-Games Malaysia (WIGout); the founding chairman of the Game Development Association of Malaysia and many more.

IN LINE WITH MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT ASPIRATIONS

In 2012, the Prime Minister’s Office and PEMANDU (Performance Management and Delivery Unit) awarded UOW Malaysia with an Entry Point Project (EPP14) initiative under the Economic Transformation Plan and the National Key Economic Area (Education) to spearhead the Game Development industry in Malaysia, focusing on awareness and talent building activities. This Game Development Cluster represents the start of a strategic collaboration between educational institutions and the Game Development industry to create a High-Income, Sustainable Creative Economy in the area of Game Development.

In 2019, UOW Malaysia once again spearheaded the formation of the Game Development Council of Malaysia (GDCOM) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. The council which has three broad-based objectives; to provide academic leadership and academic excellence in higher education; to create awareness of the game development industry; and to develop talent development initiatives to sustain the ecosystem; reports directly to MOE.

In other words, UOW Malaysia is recognised by both the Industry and the Malaysian Government as one the premier Game Development institutions in the country.

For students wishing to enter the Bachelor of Game Development program (Game Art or Game Design), a Pass in SPM Mathematics is recommended.

For students wishing to enter the Game Technology track, a Credit in SPM Mathematics is required.

Candidates without a Pass or Credit in Mathematics at SPM level may be admitted if their entry qualification contain subject(s) of Mathematics and their achievement is equivalent or higher than the required Pass or Credit of Mathematics at the SPM level.
