The Power Chef 2022 competition was organised by UOW Malaysia KDU’s School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts (SHTCA) which was also held in conjunction with UOW Malaysia KDU’s 25th Anniversary Partnership with the IMI International Management Institute, Switzerland. The objective of Power Chef 2022 is to expose high school students to Hospitality and Culinary Arts and to provide a platform for students to enhance their skills and demonstrate their creativity in the field of Hospitality and Culinary Arts. 

A total of 100 students from 25 schools turned up for the Power Chef 2022 competition which was held on 18 June 2022 from 9am to 3pm at our UOW Malaysia KDU Glenmarie Campus. The students were divided to a team of 2 individuals to compete throughout 5 different segments of which in the end the team with the highest score will emerge as the Champion of Power Chef 2022. 

During the end of each segment, the students will be given scores based on different criteria set by our UOW Malaysia KDU’s SHTCA Lecturers and Chefs. At the start of each segment, the students will be briefed on what to do and given a quick demonstration before they start. For the first segment, students are required to make a Swiss dish called Rösti followed by the second segment, Mocktail Making. In the third segment of the competition, the students will attempt to make Rye breads. Next, the fourth segment is to create a Swiss dessert called Mont Blanc and the last segment will be quiz to test students’ knowledge about Swiss Cheeses. 

As we came to the end of the event, our judges and panel had compiled the scores and the champion of Power Chef 2022 were won by a team from SMK Damansara Jaya which won a total of RM500 Cash Prize, a Champion’s Trophy and Certificate. As for the 1st Runner-Up Winner , the prizes consisted of RM300 Cash Prize, trophy and certificates goes to SMK Damansara Utama. Lastly for the winners of 2nd Runner-Up, SMK Seksyen 7 , the prizes were RM200 cash prize, a trophy and certificates. There were also 5 consolation prizes of RM100 cash prize which won by representatives of SMK Methodist ACS Klang , SMK Assunta, SMK Kota Kemuning, SMK USJ 12 and SMK Seafield respectively. 

After a long competitive yet fun filled event, UOW Malaysia KDU congratulated all winners and participants who attended Power Chef 2022, hoping that they had gained exposure and understanding about Culinary Arts as well as the hospitality industry.
