Out-Of-The Box Ideas From Students

George Town, 27 August 2019 – Eleven UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College students showcased their interior design plans and proposals for resorts during the ‘At One With’ Final Year Exhibition.

Diploma in Interior Design student Chun Wei Ting, 20, said her ‘Dazzle Cerulean’ concept for a resort emphasised the cerulean colour.

“The colour is a reflection of the ocean and I used different shades of cerulean along with beige and brown as the main theme colours. For my design, I also included bamboo as it helps to maintain the tropical vibes despite applications of modern furniture. The whole look gives a very laidback but aesthetic feel, ” she said during the event at Penang Digital Library.

Chun was among 11 Diploma in Interior Design and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Interior Architec-ture students who displayed their projects at the recent two-day exhibition.

UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College deputy vice chancellor Dr Brian Charles Imrie said the exhibition highlighted spaces to enhance family-focused lifestyles.

“The aim is to create environmental connectivity between space and the users’ lifestyle, ” he said.

Penang Youth Development Corporation general manager Thoy Siew Ping said the exhibition provided a good opportunity for the young to appreciate design.

“It is also a valuable platform to share family-focused designs and promote the essence of relaxation. It is satisfying to see a wide scope of plans for the improvement of social collaboration, ” said Thoy, who was representing Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee at the event.
