Counsellor engagement yoga workshop was conducted on the 25th September 2019 at Blackbox, Damansara Jaya campus. The objective of this workshop is to promote mindfulness and taking care of self despite students’ hectic academic schedules. Ms. Lim Swee Wei was the invited yoga instructor.

During the yoga workshop, slow-paced and relaxing instrumental music was played by creating a calm and safe space for the students. Yoga instructor introduced and demonstrated yoga postures that can be easily followed by the students.

After the yoga session, students were invited to participate in the reflection and sharing session facilitated by two counsellors, Ms. Farhana and Ms. Jia Yi. Students shared that the yoga workshop was a pleasant experience as the instructor taught and guided them patiently throughout the workshop. Besides that, they commented that breathing technique is helpful and they will most likely practice it such as when they are feeling anxious and nervous before sitting for quiz, test or exam and at the same time the yoga session managed to calm their mind and body, as well as helped to focus on the present moment.

Aside from the physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is how it helps a person manage stress, which is known to have devastating effects on the body and mind.Overall, the yoga session benefited students in terms of taking care of their mind and body. However, it would be great if more students are able to join the session in the future.
