Basic Life Support, or BLS, generally refers to the type of care that first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway. It requires knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED) and relieving airway obstructions in patients of every age.

In addition to the physical skills necessary for providing BLS care to those in need, those working in basic life support also need to have critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and be able to work as part of a team to deliver the best care possible and improve patient outcomes.

Basic life support workshop was conducted on the 22nd October 2019 at Blackbox, Damansara Jaya campus. The workshop aimed to introduce possible daily life injuries, symptoms, prevention and treatment needed. The invited speaker was a representative from medical team at Sunway Medical Centre.

The workshop was conducted in an informative manner where students got to view some graphics and interventions of common injuries and diseases encountered in daily life. Besides that, the speaker introduced types of medical services provided by Sunway Medical Centre that available for general public.

During Q&A session, students asked about sports injuries such as bone fractures treatment and medical insurance packages provided by Sunway Medical Centre. The workshop wrapped up after group photo was taken. This workshop helps students to recognize and understand common injuries and diseases in daily life, as well as seek medical aid and/or treatment when needed.
