Dr Yeap Gik Hong

Dr Yeap Gik Hong is currently the Head of School for the School of Engineering, Computing and Built Environment at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University. He received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Polytechnic (POLIMAS) in 2001. After working in Singapore for 1.5 years, he further his study to UK and received BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Systems from the University of Lincoln in 2003 with First Class Honours. He later obtained his MSc in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing from the University of Hull, UK in 2006 with Distinction. In September 2005, he was awarded the PhD Studentship and obtained his PhD in Electronic Engineering degree from the University of Hull in 2010.

Dr Yeap is a registered Chatered Engineer (CEng) under Engineering Council, United Kingdom (EC Council UK), Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE), USA, a Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), UK, a Graduate Member of Institute of Engineers Malaysia (Grad IEM) and Graduate Engineers of Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). He is appointed as Auditor of Malaysia TRIZ Innovation Association (MyTRIZ) since 2019. He also served as Committee Member of IEM Electronic Engineering Technical Division (eETD) since 2016. He is also serving as Industry Advisory Panel member for Politeknik Balik Pulau (PBU) since 2016. He is a certified International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ) Level 3 Practitioner, MyTRIZ Level 3 Practitioner and MyTRIZ Level 1 and Level 2 Instructor. He has actively promoting the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) among his students with the intention to improve the problem solving skills, creativity and innovation level of the students.

Besides the administrative and academic responsibilities, Dr Yeap is also active in research. He has published a number of journals and conference papers in the renowned international journals and conferences. His research interests include physics of semiconductor, robotics, renewable energy, industrial automation, etc.
