Dr Ong Song Quan

Dr Ong Song-Quan is an entomologist and a professional chemist (Licentiates Malaysian Institute of Chemistry – LMIC) that highly excited about ecology, insect toxicology, and chemical biology. Professional expertise including ecotoxicology, molecular entomology, organic and analytical chemistry. With more than ten years of experience in analytical chemistry, he deals with insecticide’s residues analysis and screening of potential insecticidal biological molecules from plants or soil. Dr Ong is the principal and co-researcher of multiple research grants which amoutns to more than RM300,000. He has authored for more than 20 ISI and Scopus indexed articles and proceedings which is related to insect ecology, insect toxicology, and vector control.

He is also an active reviewer for ISI/Scopus indexed journals and had reviewed more than 20 top tier journals. Dr Ong is the recipient of the UOW Malaysia KDU Penang Best Researcher award (2016, 2018) and UOW Malaysia KDU Penang Best Lecturer award (2017). He is also the winner of SBS Publication Award (2017) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Best Research and Oral Presentation for international conferences. His research interests include the application of A.I on vector control, human and environmental impact on insect, insecticides formulation, and food security. He has founded the Food and Insect Linkage Laboratory (FILL) that focuses on the idea of food/feed with the insect.
