The Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Computer and Network Technology degree program is designed to provide a challenging program for students to demonstrate their full potential in respect to computer networking, software development and computer hardware in the context of modern digital communication systems. This degree is validated by a leading UK university and upon successful completion of the program graduates are awarded two degree certificates. The courses offered cover a wide range of topics including object-oriented programming, network programming and computational mathematics, computer data networks using languages and tools such as Java, C++, UNIX, Network Simulators, Network sensor smart home environment.


Why study Computer and Network Technology?
The program offers state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories equipped with the latest industry standard technology including, networking labs that emulate the Internet using Cisco equipment, network sensor development environments that allow us to study ‘the Internet of Things’, as well as a dedicated, networked smart home environment.
Students will have experience how to cable and configure routers and switches, as well as other systems such as phones, video cameras and wireless devices. Understand how the network is used in the modern IT industry by studying the way global systems – like Google, Amazon and Facebook – operate. Practical networking experience with sound knowledge of the software running on the servers, giving you the invaluable insight employers are looking for.

Graduates of a dual award degree program receive a degree award from both UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College and our partner university. A dual award degree program constitutes completion of a single program of study and is differentiated from a double –degree.

Most students who have graduated followed the Computer Science degree program go into careers in software industry, extending from small and medium companies to multinationals. A number of our graduates have continued their studies at the universities, government services and teaching professions. More than 95% employment rate within the first 6 months upon graduation. On-campus career talks and walk-in interviews are regularly conducted for graduates.


Our academic staff has specialized in their field area, industry experience, and research activities. They are active researchers to bring innovative talents to share with students and in classroom. Our guest lecturers from industry also provide the current trends and technology enhancement among the students. Our facilitators are involved with Peer-Assisted Learning, in which the final year students provide optional support sessions during the semesters.


UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College is collaborating with IBM Malaysia and their delivering partner, Teknoturf, to setup IBM Innovation Centre for Education (ICE) to offer a series of professional certification programs. For Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) students, the professional certification program offered under IBM ICE will be Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Students will complete 4 IBM modules under this certification program.


Department of Computing has a wide range of software packages to support the computer science, computer games, animation, networking and business intelligence curriculum, including tools for software/apps development, mobile development, network simulations and more. There is free access to commercial software and servers to staff and students are available. The students are able to use UOW Malaysia KDU Cloud API storage to store their projects deployment.


Today’s cutting edge technology and competitiveness have increased globally within complex environment. To this end, the department of computing works closely with the manufacturing and software industry. It is an essential criterion in creating a robust and complete industry driven curriculum to suit the students and fit to work right after their graduation as well as increasing and taking advantage of research opportunities. The Industry Board of Department of Computing are made up of industry professionals to provide constructive feedback on our curriculum.  Employers include Intel, DELL, National Instruments, Motorola, etc.

i) Diploma in Computer Science / Software Engineering / Information Technology / Information System or equivalent with min. CGPA 2.50; or

ii) Any Diploma in science and technology with min. CGPA 2.50

Note: Candidate for category (i) and (ii) with CGPA under 2.50 but more than 2.00 may be admitted subject to rigorous internal assessment process by institution


Candidates entering the degree programme via Matriculation/Foundation/STPM with credit in Mathematics and any one subject in Science, Technology or Engineering at SPM level or equivalent are required to take Mathematics enhancement course with topics related to Computer Science and Software Engineering fields.

Candidates must pass the Mathematics enhancement course as prerequisite before are allowed to take related core subject. However, this requirement does not limit candidate from taking any other core or non-core subjects that do not have the Mathematics enhancement course as the prerequisite.

The credit for the Mathematics enhancement course is an extra credit to core subjects and can be considered as part of the graduating credit.

The requirement for the Mathematics enhancement course can be exempted if the Matriculation or Foundation programme or equivalent contains Mathematics subject that is at the same level/higher than the credit in Additional Mathematics at SPM level.
