What is a diploma program?

A diploma program or diploma course is designed to be just one level below an undergraduate degree course. It is sometimes considered equivalent to the first year of a university degree.

Diploma courses allow you to develop practical, industry specific skills and knowledge that will enable you to function and succeed in the working world. You can usually apply to enter a diploma program after completing your SPM, providing that you meet the entry requirements.

Upon completion of your diploma, you can join the workforce or opt to pursue a related degree.

Why consider a diploma program?

A diploma program offers you several advantages:

  • You can opt to enter the workforce upon completion of your diploma. This allows you to gain some work experience. It also gives you the opportunity to save up for your degree course if you have financial constraints. However, a diploma will only open doors to entry level jobs and you will need to continue with your degree if you desire to move up in your career.
  • You will have the chance to develop hands-on skills. Diploma courses will get you trained for a particular area. It is suitable for you if you intend to pursue a career that requires practical skills.

* Terms and conditions apply. Due to specific entry requirements, applications for UOW programs will be sent to UOW for assessment before final acceptance.
