UOW Malaysia KDU Students in Top 10 In Huawei-Seeds for the Future Program

By UOW Malaysia KDU

Recently, UOW Malaysia KDU in Penang joined a network of over 900 other universities around the world in being certified as university partners of the Huawei ICT Academy. Within this collaborative partnership UOW Malaysia KDU delivers professional Huawei Certification training, which complements a student’s computer science or software engineering bachelor degree studies. This partnership with a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices further advances graduate employment readiness, provides accesses to the latest technology advances,  and access to both Huawei e-learning resources and industry standard simulation tools.

A highlight of the annual calendar at the Huawei ICT Academy is the ‘Huawei-Seeds for the Future’ end of year celebration. Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s flagship global CSR program. Launched in 2008, this program aims to develop skilled, local ICT talent and bridge the communication gap between countries and cultures. The program is premised on the idea that by sharing ICT expertise and experiences in a global business environment, young people from different countries can learn about advanced technologies in the ICT industry and accumulate ICT expertise and contribute to the progress of the global ICT industry.

Within this initiative Huawei selects the very best students from across their global Huawei ICT Academy network to attend a 2 week, all expenses paid, series of activities in China. Huawei Seeds for the Future has been implemented in around 126 countries and international organizations worldwide, benefitting over 30,000 students from 500 universities. The Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education is a supporting partner in this initiative. Selected participants first usually spend a week in Beijing, where they gain a glimpse of China’s rich traditions, arts and customs. They then in the normal course of events would get to explore many scenic spots in the Beijing vicinity such as the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall and the Summer Palace. They are then whisked off to Huawei’s Global Headquarters in Shenzhen where they get to deep dive into the technology world through technical training and exchanges with experts drawn from both the Huawei team and other experts from across the globe.

In year 2020, two UOW Malaysia KDU students had the honor of being selected under the ‘Huawei-Seeds for the Future’ to participate within this experience. Both students, Vinitha A/P Muraly and Gan Jer Shern, were selected for their outstanding performance in the Huawei ICT Academy courses  and are currently completing their  Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) program at UOW Malaysia KDU in Penang. They, along with 8 other Malaysian recipients, received a Huawei Matepad T10 as well as complimentary access to Huawei courses to further expand their learning. Due to the ongoing pandemic the China experience was shaped into a virtual delivery, but there was still the same access to cross-cultural activity, and dialogue and learning opportunities with industry experts.

This program serves to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding and interest in the telecommunications sector, and improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community. UOW Malaysia KDU is truly honored to be part of this Huawei Malaysia Seeds for the Future initiative and congratulates these students on being recognized at an international level for the success in their ICT studies.
