UOW jumps in national rank and performing indicators improve in latest global rankings

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has maintained its position in the top 250 global institutions in the 2023 Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings, announced today Wednesday, 12 October.

The University has moved up two places to achieve an equal 11th rank in Australia.

UOW was analysed against 13 performance metrics across 1600 global universities to determine its global rank.

This year, UOW has seen improvements in its teaching reputation (up 42 per cent), research reputation (up 15 per cent) and industry income scores (up 3 per cent). It reflects UOW’s commitment to delivering world-class teaching and learning outcomes that meet industry expectations.

UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Patricia M. Davidson welcomed the rankings results.

“Solving complex global issues through research and innovation remain UOW’s top priority,” Professor Davidson said.

“The education sector in Australia and around the world is still evolving from the disruptions caused by the pandemic, and it is a testament to our researchers who have ensured that the quality of teaching and learning remains outstanding, amidst all the challenges that created barriers to accessing quality education during the pandemic.

“The extraordinary support and expertise that our academics provide to our students has resulted in UOW being recognised among the world’s best institutions.”

“The University has also invested in infrastructure to support academics to produce high-quality research, create global collaborations and engage in strategic partnerships.”

“These rankings also reflect UOW’s engagement with local communities across its campuses to support students through scholarships and partnering with local industry to provide impactful graduate outcomes for students in those regions.”

As part of UOW’s 2020-2025 strategic plan, the university has outlined three ambitious Strategic Goals that aim to empower students for their future, create knowledge for a better world and make a difference for our communities. The plan is developed to ensure the University is positioned to rapidly adapt, respond to and lead change globally.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings list the world’s best universities, emphasising their research mission.
