Photography Workshop: Shoot Like A Professional On A Students’ Budget

Photography workshop conducted by Mr Ian Barbosa, lecturer from School of Mass Communication, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang.

A photograph’s exposure determines how light or dark an image will appear when it’s been captured by your camera.

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever.

Group photo together with the students.

If you’re just starting out as a photographer, congratulations! There’s never been a more exciting, or easier time to learn the art of photography. Today there are dozens of ways of developing your photography skills. None of them is right or wrong; just find the one that best suits your personality and learning style. This is a sure fire way to fast track your development as a photographer.

Mr Ian Barbosa, lecturer from School of Mass Communication, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang conducted a photography workshop for students from high school around Ipoh area. The Photography Workshop was held at UOW Malaysia KDU Education Counselling Centre in Ipoh.

During the workshop the students, been exposed to composition, rule of thirds, guiding (or leading) lines and colour temperature.

The photography workshop taught them with an overview of the settings that they will encounter when they want to take the leap and take your camera off ‘Auto’. The biggest step, that will give them the most noticeable difference in the feeling of control and direct influence on creative results, will be to start using the ‘aperture priority’ or ‘shutter priority’ shooting modes and once you are familiar with those, you can start thinking about exploring further.  Soon enough, they will no longer think of the camera as a mysterious black box, but understand how to achieve the photographic results that they bought it for in the first place.

UOW Malaysia KDU offers Diploma in Communication & Media at both campuses. This programme ensures students are grounded with a strong foundation in the communications field and are exposed to real-world experience through projects and campaigns.
