Kick-Starting Your Own Businesses Now

George Town, 29 April 2019 – From January 1 to December 31, 2019, all students of higher learning institutions can register businesses without any charge, and UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College’s (UOW Malaysia KDU Penang) students are quick to take advantage of the privilege and go beyond the classroom. They step right into the business world.

Rather than studying engineering, for example, and then becoming an engineer. UOW Malaysia KDU Penang students have the option to explore their entrepreneurial instincts and get a feel of starting businesses even before they graduate.

The Career and Placement Centre at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang organised a workshop on “Registering a Start-up & Taxation” by Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) on April 25, 2019, on the campus.

More than 67 participants from UOW Malaysia KDU Penang’s School of Computing, Engineering, and Business participated in this workshop.

“This workshop will give show students on how to kick start their own businesses. They will learn the basic rules of operating their businesses in our country,” said Puan Zuraida Abd Majid, SSM’s representative speaker.

She said that UOW Malaysia KDU Penang has created a good platform for students to create their own businesses, not only for business students but also those from all courses.

“I’ve heard that many UOW Malaysia KDU Penang students have created their own business to selling merchandise in exhibitions and online portals. It’s a good chance for them to become an entrepreneur at a young age and not just think of looking depending on jobs for income,” she said.

UOW Malaysia KDU Penang Career and Placement Centre Manager Anna Lim said the campus was always supportive of students who wish to step beyond academics and gain early experience in starting businesses.

“We always support our students who want to start their own businesses and encourage them to become entrepreneurs. UOW Malaysia KDU Penang provides many platform for them to become self-employed and challenge them to face the real struggles of businesses,” said Anna said.
