About 200 students from selected secondary schools participated in the UOW Malaysia KDU Quiz Masters 2019 at UOW Malaysia KDU College, Damansara Jaya campus on 25th April 2019 (Thursday).

The event was jointly organised by UOW Malaysia KDU School of Pre-University Studies and Professional Accountancy Centre (PAC).  It was opened to students in Form 5 (Arts and Science streams), from selected Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan and Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (Category A), together with students from Senior Middle Form (Arts and Science streams) students in Sekolah Menengah Persendirian Cina (Category B).

The quiz questions were produced to recognise the importance of learning in Mathematics and General Knowledge in secondary schools.  Students are not only attaining knowledge when they learn up these subjects, but they are also equipping themselves with critical study skills which are essential to prepare them for further education and life-long learning.

The event also aimed at another goal. By organising and conducting various activities such as UOW Malaysia KDU Quiz Masters 2019, UOW Malaysia KDU students gain opportunities to enrich their learning experience and skills beyond the classroom.

A campus tour was organised for these young visitors after the quiz was held.  They were chaperoned by UOW Malaysia KDU students where this arrangement provided opportunities for UOW Malaysia KDU students to share thoughts and stories of their college life.

While the quiz was in progress, accompanying school teachers were invited to join a session in “EQ at Work Place” conducted by Dr. Jenny Wong Sook Khuan (Head of School, School of Pre-University Studies and School of Business and Social Sciences, UOW Malaysia KDU College) at the newly launched LightBulb Startup Hub.

The event was also attended by guest speakers and sponsor who presented valuable information to participants about the Pre-University Studies (by Mr. Vijaiyan Karthigesh, Academic Department Head, School of Pre-University Studies) and Professional Accounting programmes (by Mr. Chan Tze Kang, Academic Department Head, Professional Accountancy Centre), as well as offered an insight into the accounting profession (by Mr. Raymond Chang, Business Development Manager, ACCA Malaysia).

The most thrilling moment was during the announcement of the result in the Auditorium.  Cheers and applause filled the hall as the winners and accompanying school teachers received their prizes from Associate Professor Dr. Hon Wei Min (Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, UOW Malaysia KDU University College) and Mr. Raymond Chang (Business Development Manager, ACCA Malaysia).

Every winner received a medal, laptop bag and certificate.  The top three schools in Category A were awarded challenge trophies, both participant and school also received Cash Prizes, RM400 (Champion), RM300 (1st Runner-Up) and RM200 (2nd Runner-Up).  For Category B, a challenge trophy was presented to the winning school, whereas the top three participants were given Cash Prizes, RM400 (Champion), RM300 (1st Runner-Up) and RM200 (2nd Runner-Up).

Laptop bags and cash prizes were generously sponsored by ACCA Malaysia.
