Journalism Students Finding Their “Voice Lah”

By UOW Malaysia KDU

Recently, students within The School of Communications and Creative Media collaborated with one of the nation’s leading news portals, Malaysiakini, to work on a citizen journalism project called “Voice Lah”.

The purpose of this project was to connect to people whose voices have largely been ignored in the mainstream media sphere and provide a platform for their voices to be heard in the public domain. UOW Malaysia KDU students went to the ground to conduct their fieldwork, travelling in public transport and going to the suburbs. They engaged with the local citizens, hunting down every voice that they could that needed a voice, and published their stories.

Topics that were covered on “Voice Lah” included education, economy, racism and many more.
