Congratulation to 2nd year Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Honours student Adrian Looi Song Qian for winning the gold award in the Diploma Category of MNNF Network Final Year Project and Postgraduate Research and Innovation Poster Competition (RIPC) Series 2/2021.
Adrian’s research poster submission entitled “Implementation of RFID Laboratory for Equipment Identification”, was voted the 2nd favourite among other 37 projects from all sectors and academic backgrounds.
Adrian impressed the panel of judges with his presentation with an aid of visually impactful poster, which revolves on optimising radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology; a wireless technology to track every piece of test and measurement equipment located in an engineering laboratory in real-time.
This budding engineer with an instinct to think outside of the box opted to use technology-based innovation as a viable solution to improve the mundane inspection tasks performed by the laboratory technician in terms of ensuring none of the test and measurement equipment was misplaced or tampered in the engineering laboratory at the end of each day. Thus, prompting an effort to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of managing the laboratory.
This competition which emphasizes on science, engineering, technology, mathematics, social sciences, and humanities domain forms as a valuable platform that encourages budding engineers like Adrian and others to use their cognitive abilities to articulate ideas in a proactive yet ethical manner.
On behalf of the UOW Malaysia KDU, the School of Engineering would like to congratulate both Arian Looi (Gold Award) and Lee Kah Kean (double Silver Award) for their achievements.
