Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly Wins Big At SEA Game Awards 2022


Indonesian-made video game Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly bagged three major awards at the SEA Game Awards 2022, including the highly prestigious Grand Jury Award.

The sixth annual SEA Game Awards, held in conjunction with Level Up KL 2022, celebrated and recognised the best video games Southeast Asia have to offer.

With twelve awards up for grabs, here are the winners for this year’s edition of the SEA Game Awards:

Best Game Design Award

Cuisineer by Battlebrew Productions is a game that is best described as a mix between Hades and Diner Dash. The other nominees included Faerie Afterlight by Clay Game Studio, Rhythm Doctor by 7th Beat Games, and Let’s Build a Zoo by Springloaded.

Best Visual Art Award

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly by Toge Productions is the sequel to their 2020 hit. The other nominees included Rendezvous by Pendopo Multi Creation, Cuisineer by Battlebrew Productions, and Faerie Afterlight by Clay Game Studio.

Best Innovation Award

Rhythm Doctor was developed by 7th Beat Games, a Malaysian studio with team members from all over the world. The other nominees were Let’s Build a Zoo by Springloaded, Sigil of the Magi by Yongjustyong, and To Be You by Better.SG

Best Storytelling Award

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly by Toge Productions won their second award of the night. They beat out three other nominees, namely To Be You by Better.SG, Simulacra 3 by Kaigan Games, and Kabaret by Persona Theory.

Best Technology Award

Determinant was developed by Khor Chin Heong, a solo developer with eleven years’ experience under his belt. The other nominees were Malice from Nimbus Games, The Signal State from Reckoner Industries, and Rendezvous by Pendopo Multi Creation.

Best Audio Award

Rhythm Doctor by 7th Beat Games won their second award of the night. Nominees included Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly by Toge Productions, Kabaret by Persona Theory, and The Signal State from Reckoner Industries.

Best Student Game Award

End of the Line was developed by a group of nine students from UOW Malaysia KDU. The other nominees included Who is He: Let Me Out by Batam State Polytechnic, Dare by Mara University of Technology, and The World of Souls by the One Academy.

Audience Choice Award

Post Knight 2 by Kurechii is the sequel to the hit mobile game from Malaysia. Nominees included Elysium by UOW Malaysia KDU, End of the Line by students of UOW Malaysia KDU, Troublemaker by Gamecom Team.

Rising Star Award

Faerie Afterlight by Clay Game Studio is an atmospheric metroidvania from Indonesia. The other nominees were Knight Crawlers by Good Morning Games, Kabaret by Persona Theory, Once Again bv RB Wolf Design.

Best International Games Award

The Legend of Tianding by CGCG is a sidescrolling beat ‘em up game set during a crucial time in Taiwan’s history. It bested three other nominees, including Opus: Echo of Starsong Full Bloom Edition by Sigono, Ghost Shadow by Papacubec Games, and The Library of Babel by Tanuki Game Studio.

Xsolla Sponsored Award

Endura by Ifio Studio is a run-and-gun third-person action game from Malaysia. The other nominees were Pryzm by DrearyWeary, A Space for the Unbound by Mojiken Studio, and Troublemaker by Gamecom Team.

Grand Jury Award

Ultimately, Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly by Toge Productions brought home three awards, the most out of any other game this year. The other nominees included Let’s Build a Zoo by Springloaded, Kabaret by Persona Theory, and Faerie Afterlight by Clay Game Studio.
