Bronze Award – FEE EcoCampus Program at UOW Malaysia KDU

UOW Malaysia KDU has established the EcoCampus Management since 2019 through their sustainability initiatives. FEE EcoCampus is an award programme that provides a framework to guide higher education institutions on their sustainable journey and model sustainability as an integral part of campus life while involving staff, teachers and the student body by empowering them to become forward thinkers and lead the way towards sustainable development.  

UOW Malaysia KDU has been awarded with Bronze Award for FEE EcoCampus Program under WWF Malaysia Fee EcoCampus through sustainability initiatives under Student and Alumni Centre (SAC). This program is an international award that guides all the third level institutions on their sustainable journey by providing a simple framework to help an integral part of campus life.

UOW Malaysia KDU started joining Fee EcoCampus Program in the year of 2019 whereby SAC implemented the seven methodology frameworks by FEE EcoCampus program. An eco-committee is formed through the Volunteers Initiative Project (V.I.P.) that is run by UOW Malaysia KDU students, namely the Green Troopers.

Environmental review on environmental issues such as energy saving and waste are executed at UOW Malaysia KDU campuses. The action plans executed through various initiative such as elevator shutdown for energy savings, recycling efforts by fabrics waste collections. By implementing sustainability initiatives, students from School of Computing and Creative Media (SCCM) took part in designing fabrics bin, D.I.Y workshops classes conducted by Student and Alumni Centre (SAC) and Green Technovation Challenges by Engineering Society and Tech Club. The steps taken it to enhance their initiatives in producing Eco Code to the campus.  

Apart from executing the methodology framework based on the FEE EcoCampus programme, Student and Alumni Centre UOW Malaysia KDU embarked the journey on various initiatives to engage within the community by sustainability efforts. Apart of the initiatives was Morib Beach Clean-up in June 2019 together with YAM Tengku Zatasha, Selangor Royal Princess, MBSA and Reef Check.

Besides that, staff from Student and Alumni Centre also came out with the initiatives of “Seed Your Future” where they distributed flowers’ and plants’ seed to the public at LRT stations (Glenmarie & Kelana Jaya) together to students and staff of UOW Malaysia KDU.

The Bronze award being selected based on the seven methodology steps to achieve goals of a greener campus. Meanwhile, it also helps our university to systematically and continuously identify, evaluate, manage and improve the environmental performance and practices in various progressive phases.
